Andrew’s Class: Changes to Portfolio Website

Here are the changes I will be making to the website:

  • email & blog links – make them work (Nicole’s feedback)
  • change packaging to identity (logos/corporate identity)
  • for the MISC section, add one more button – show 4 works instead of 3 (will need to change the window to be like the layout mouseover)
  • homepage – instead of ‘welcome to my website’, say ‘welcome to my graphic design portfolio’
  • put my name in the top right hand area of the webpage (in the black header) – to make it clear whose site it is!
  • follow Craig’s advice about navigation – be able to go to projects within the viewing area, instead of keep having to go back to the main gallery menu.

Andrew’s Class: Portfolio Website Prototype

For Andrew’s class, our current assignment is a portfolio website. Like what we did for Craig last semester, but better now we have more experience. 🙂

Each of us have to create a prototype in Fireworks and make it into a pdf. We have to get feedback from classmates on suitability, usability and feasibility.

Here’s my prototype for review:

Judith Tan – prototype pages for classmate critique

Am looking forward to everyone’s comments 🙂 Criticize and pick at it as much as you want, that will help me make it better 🙂

Thanks in advance,

Andrew’s Class: Some final notes

Main characters-04-03

Above – all 3 completed characters!

GunGirl 2 interface is done!!!

😀

Things I’m happy about:

  • my first experience with Flash!
  • learned a LOT
  • wasn’t keen on Flash at first, but by the end, I find it is actually really fun!
  • like the look of my characters (guys could be more detailed if I had more time, but this has shown me that less detailed still looks ok!)
  • good thing I did a bit of AfterEffects last year (else I’d get heaps more stuck)
  • the moving robot in the title page hehe
  • the weapons page – I think that’s my favourite page! 🙂
  • etc 🙂

Some things I’m not happy about:

  • Bad Time Management. All in capitals.
  • repeating images 😦 didn’t get to draw new artwork for the title page
  • just remembered as I was typing above line – forgot artwork for play page OOPS…sadness 😛

What I hope to do differently next time:

  • start getting into the assignment much earlier – as soon as I get it!!
  • do something each week – don’t let a week pass without doing at least a little of the assignment
  • ok to be detailed, but don’t spend too much on stuff that doesn’t matter so much which will leave no time for things that do matter (and if there’s spare time afterwards, then I can go back to polish things up!

Well, I’d better go now. It’s 1:38am and I have 3 more assignments to work on which are due lunchtime and 4:30pm. -_-

See what I mean? The capitals are justified.

LOL

Well, that ended up to be a really fun assignment after all…and challenging and mindboggling! But great all the same 🙂

Andrew’s Class: Successful adventures

Yay! Andrew figured out what the problem was with my scrollpane. It was working already – just that I had added black tint to it so it wasn’t showing up. 🙂

I learned out to do a clipping mask animation for my light strip feature. This is the video I learned from: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9292heSSTg

I also want to know how to make the window close when the quit button is clicked. I found this site http://www.gotoandlearnforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=20762

I haven’t tried it yet but I hope to later!

Andrew’s Class: Weapon Redesign

Great. The GunGirl website is down, so I can’t access the weapon info to redesign the weapons!

So I made up my own. (a mixture of what I recall + some fun ones 🙂 )

I’m pretty pleased with the outcome…considering I did them real quick (not an official requirement of the brief, but needed)

I Google-imaged the different guns to help me come up with the designs.

Here’s my roughs/planning:

To blog - weapon redesign

Some more research (for writing the specs)

Difference between rifle and shotgun: Rifles are designed for accuracy to hit a precise point. Shotguns are designed to shoot a spread of shot at moving targets. http://homestudy.ihea.com/aboutfirearms/10diffrifleshotg.htm

Pistol – also known as handgun. My conclusion – must be close range 🙂

My final guns done on Illustrator:

Andrew’s Class: ScrollPane + Time Fail

Have been working and working on my GunGirl interface 🙂

(me and my bad time management. Again 😀 …I am looking forward to starting afresh next semester!! Whoo!!)

Anyways, since there’s a lot of robots and robot info to put into one page, I wanted to have a scroll feature so that everything could fit.

So I went about trying to figure out how to do it. On hindsight, this was probably a very unwise thing to do as I’ve spent 2+ hours on this one thing. Current GunGirl status – 1 animation, no sounds, no vectorized GunDude and Scythe, no weapons…due tomorrow noon. Current status for 1970s fashion presentation that’s due tomorrow afternoon? Please don’t ask.

And it’s past midnight. See what I mean? I’ve got laugh at myself again for being so stupid. Getting caught up in a detail which is not even required by the brief and neglecting everything else which NEEDS to be done LOL
